Summary of the PBS ILM Event

Once again this year, PBS Software GmbH invited their customers, partners, and those interested to their annual two-day ILM Event. For two days, experts gave presentations on the topics of Information Lifecycle Management and Business Intelligence in the SAP environment. In addition to the numerous presentations and live demos, there were plenty of opportunities for networking. As in previous years, PBS sales and solution partners such as ComoSol, EMC, GISA, HPC, NetApp, TJC, and Sybase were also present with booths in front of the conference room so that they could provide information to those interested.

8th PBS Archiving Day

Of course, at what was meanwhile the eighth PBS Archiving Day, company founder and managing director, Günther Reichling did not neglect the opportunity to warmly welcome his guests to the event. PBS business relationships are built on a long-term and solid basis and the ILM community is of a manageable size meaning that many long-standing friends and acquaintances were able to meet up with one another again.

The presentations started with Georg Fischer from SAP AG, who is meanwhile a loyal PBS friend and expert when it comes to ILM, and whose presentations at the PBS Event are already part of its tradition. The many years of ILM development at SAP have now established themselves as an independent, new SAP component, "Information Lifecycle Management from SAP" that is already in its ramp-up phase: ILM Solution from SAP - Legally Compliant Information Management for Productive and Legacy Systems

How the PBS software products can be integrated into the new scenario and create added value was illustrated very clearly by Prof. Dr. Detlev Steinbinder, someone who has been with PBS right from the very start. Going into detail regarding each of the numerous individual PBS enhancements would have gone beyond the scope of the event, meaning that he had to limit his presentation to the main developments. Walter Steffen presented the exciting new PBS developments in the area of retrieval of structured and unstructured SAP data completely without an SAP system, within the scope of SAP system shutdowns.  He too, as the first employee, was with PBS from almost the day it was founded, and this time he was supported by his development colleagues for the live demo, Oliver Hölzel and Torben Griebe. Afterwards, there was another presentation by Walter Steffen on the further developments of his SE16_PERSONAL, formerly SE16_Audit, a pragmatic tool for enabling a controlled, user-specific usage of the extremely powerful SAP transaction that he also showed live together with his PBS colleague, Uwe Wehe. Maximilian Rumpf from the German Post Office, where everyone is extremely satisfied with the implementation of the PBS tool, kindly provided information about practical areas of application and how PBS SE16_PERSONAL has proved itself in practice. PBS SE16_PERSONAL - Field Report from Deutsche Post

Dimitrios Diamantidis from PBS Software GmbH presented the PBS CISU for energy suppliers and how a complete package can develop over time from a single PBS archive add on. PBS Solutions for SAP IS-U GdPdU-Access, Master Data Changes, Archiving of Spool Files

PBS ContentLink is also setting new trends. As we have already reported, it was only just recently certified for the first time by SAP for the SAP-specific WebDAV 2.0 interface together with the NetApp Filer. This means that in comparison with other similar products, is has the unique selling point of being a solution that supports two different SAP protocols. Further advantages are its fast implementation and low costs. From Q4/2008, integration with the PBS ContentReader will be provided, which enables a direct query by application data, stored documents, and print lists via Web browser. The responsible developer from PBS Software GmbH, Ulf Krüger, presented Version 2.2 of his lean and extremely efficient solution for audit-compliant archiving. Last but not least, a highlight of the PBS Archiving Day was the presentation given by Dr. Werner Hopf, owner of Dolphin Corporation in Philadelphia. He gave an impressive account of customer implementations of PBS ContentLink in the US market. Originally from Bavaria, but having lived in the States for many years, he presented his English slides in German and showed case studies from the retail industry as well as for a truck manufacturer. It was impressive to hear how fast PBS ContentLink gained market share in the most varied of American sectors, whereby the manufacturing and retail industries account for the largest shares up until now. This involves customers of all sizes that generate between 500 million and 20 billion dollars revenue per year. PBS ContentLink in Practice - Customer Implementations in the US Market

After being given so much information, event participants who did not have to hurry on to their next appointment enjoyed being able to socialize afterwards in a relaxed atmosphere at the hotel bar.
