Donation instead of Christmas cards

This year, as in the previous two years, we are donating to a worthy cause instead of sending Christmas cards. We believe that this is also what our regular customers, business partners and suppliers would want.

This year’s donation from PBS management is going to the Viernheim section of THW (Technisches Hilfswerk), the governmental disaster relief organization of the Federal Republic of Germany. Every year, this organization provides the festive atmosphere in the Apostelplatz square in Viernheim by putting up the Christmas tree. This is no easy task, for the magnificent almost 30-year-old specimen is 11 meters tall and weighs an impressive 1.6 tons. Cutting down the tree, transporting it and erecting it safely requires skill, caution, logistics and, not least, the right equipment. The voluntary workers of the THW also have many years of experience. Nevertheless, the volunteers are always relieved each year when the operation runs smoothly in front of the crowds that gather to watch.

The volunteers of the THW are not just called upon for their help in the run-up to Christmas. During the rest of the year you find them wherever help is needed, for instance, when residents’ cellars are flooded after a cloudburst, or if helpers are needed to assist with large events as well as on numerous other occasions. Emergency situations and disasters also take the helpers of the THW on missions abroad. The commitment of the volunteers has been unfailing for decades. In summer, the local section in Viernheim will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. To ensure that this occasion can be celebrated adequately, financial contributions to the association, such as the donation made by PBS, are always welcome.
