Integration of External Data

The analysis of data from different sources directly in the ERP system is an important topic that was touched upon in almost all presentations of the PBS Information Day. In addition to all the advantages that this application scenario has to offer, there are also some hidden obstacles. On the one hand, ERP is generally too slow for the analysis of mass data and puts a load on the ERP database. On the other hand, the evaluation of archive data is only possible to a limited extent. PBS addresses this problem with the Data Replication Services that can be used to transfer database and archive data into the analytical NAI database where it can be evaluated extremely fast. The PBS developer Ralf Kissel presented these replication services that can be automated. Prof. Dr. Andreas Mielke from TRUFA, a start-up from Heidelberg that specializes in cloud-based financial analyses, demonstrated via an application example on a graphically prepared tablet interface how “truffles” – or in other words, true business opportunities – can be found in the ERP system.

Gernot Reichling presented a project from the retail industry at the commercial chain REWE. This involves a heterogeneous system landscape and the need to archive and analyze non-SAP data from a mainframe application. By integrating external data with the SAP ERP system using NAI, both German legal accounting standards as well as analysis requirements could be fulfilled. The PBS solution that was implemented enabled data compression of more than 90 percent and as a result achieved a saving in memory space of 75 percent.
