PBS Quick Check für SAP BW

SAP data archiving projects need to be prepared accurately. For optimal results you need to learn about the data volume, grouped by SAP archiving objects respectively BW InfoProviders:

  • How large is the SAP database?
  • How is the data distribution by SAP archiving objects resp. InfoProviders?
  • Which are the largest modules?
  • Which are my largest (z) tables?
  • How much – and which – data have already been archived?

PBS offers to support you gathering this information, combined with recommendations to benefit from best matching PBS archive add ons / NLS solutions for complete and integrated SAP (archive) data retrieval and query access.  

We will compile a brief database analysis free of charge and with no obligations. For this, we just ask you to have your DB admin provide some technical database details: Extracts of table ARCH_DEF (resp. RSDCUBE, …), ADMI_FILES and information from the table and index monitor (transaction DB02). We will not ask for any business related details/confidential information.   

We would be pleased to send you our short guide how to achieve and provide the necessary details. An evaluation containing the database occupation of the SAP tables grouped by archiving objects and further information will be returned very quickly.

Save all files from parts A) and B) and send them compressed (zip or similar compression) directly to quickcheckpbs-software.com or your local contact.

A) Information about your system‘s InfoProviders:

To identify the existing InfoProviders of your BW, we need data extracts of the corresponding tables RSDCUBE, RSDODSO and RSTSODS :

  1. For InfoCubes start transaction SE16 for table RSDCUBE.
  2. Set the maximum hits to “9.999.999” and start the selection in dialog mode (F8).
  3. Export the results list: System -> List -> Save -> Local File (unconverted):
  4.  Perform the above described steps 1 – 3 similarly for tables RSDODSO (DS objects) and RSTSODS (for the PSA data and DSO ChangeLogs).

B) Extraction of table information

B1) Oracle database: SAP transaction DB02 (here for SAP BW 7.x)

  1. Start SAP transaction DB02
  2. Branch to menu section Space -> Segments  -> Detailed Analysis (double-click). In the pop-up window, enter the "Owner" (when known). Select all segments for the analysis using the asterisk (*) in field "Segments" (see screenshot).
  3. Results appear after a while (depending on data volume and system resources). Save the data in an unconverted local text file via button "Export".

B2) SAP HANA database (here for SAP BW 7.4)

  1. Start SAP transaction DB02
  2. In the left section, branch to menu option SAP HANA Database -> System Information ->Large Tables (double click). Enter at least “1.000” in field “Max. No. of Hits” as marked in the below screenshot. Hit “Apply Selection” and order the result by “Memory Size in Total”.
  3. Results appear after a short runtime. Save the data in an unconverted text file via "Export":

B3) IBM DB2 database (here for SAP BW 7.x)

  1. Start SAP transaction DB02
  2. Branch to menu section Space -> Tables and Indexes (double-click). In the pop-up window, select all data/tables via the asterisk (*) and start the analysis (F8).
  3.  Results appear after a while (depending on data volume and system resources). Save the data in an unconverted text file via button "Export".       

(Unfortunately, we can’t provide screenshots for illustration. Process is very similar to chapter B  – Oracle database).

B4) MAXDB database (here in analogy to SAP ECC 6.0)

  1. Start SAP transaction DB02
  2. Select button "Table Size Statistics". Branch to tab "Largest Tables". Leave field "Total Number of Tables" empty to ensure selection of all available tables. If this would lead to an unacceptable runtime, please limit with an appropriate value. Start in dialog with F8.
  3. Save the results in an unconverted text file:

B 5) Extract table details from AS400 (here in analogy to SAP ECC 6.0)

  1. Start transaction SE16 for table DB4TABLE_STAT 2. Call menu option: Settings  -> List Format -> Choose Fields
  2. 3. Select fields TABNAME_LONG and TABSIZE
  3. 4. Set maximum hits to "9.999.999" and start the selection (F8).
  4. 5. Export the results list in a text file: System -> List ->  Save -> Local File (unconverted):

Collocate all files and transfer to PBS Software

Save all files from parts A) and B) and send them compressed (zip or similar compression) directly to quickcheckpbs-software.com  or your local contact.

Kindly ensure that all data were saved as unconverted text files. Large data files should to be compressed properly. We will return the complete analysis results ASAP!
